DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Support the Director of Facilities and the operations at the Buildings & Grounds Department and district buildings. Work involves the performance of semi-skilled tasks when assisting Maintenance Mechanics in the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment or facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Maintenance Mechanic or supervisor. May be required to perform a variety of semi-skilled or unskilled work, such as carpentry, electrical, heating, masonry repairs, painting, plumbing, roofing work, heating, ventilating, air conditioning repairs and ground maintenance.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of rough carpentry, mechanical repair work, painting or other construction or maintenance trades; efficiency in the use of hand tools and machine tools; ability to perform semi-skilled manual tasks without constant supervision; ability to learn trade skills and methods; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; integrity; physical strength and endurance; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (a) Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience as a helper in any of the skilled building or service trades; or (b) Five (5) years of satisfactory experience as a helper in any of the skilled building or service trades or (c) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possess or obtain a valid NYS CDL Class B driver’s license within 6 months from date of hire.
