Up to an additional 20 non-report days at the rate of 1/200th per diem are required. In addition, the assistant principal maintains safety of the school environment; coordinates assigned school site activities; assists students to modify inappropriate behavior and to develop successful interpersonal skills; and communicates information to staff, principal and the public. This position supports the primary function of instructional leadership with the school principal. Qualifications: The successful candidate must have/hold: -
Valid and appropriate New York State administrative certificate -
Minimum of 7 years of teaching, administrative or education related professional educator experience is preferred. -
Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of school administration and of current educational trends in curriculum and instruction; -
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and community members -
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, community members, staff and administrators -
Ability to be flexible, detail-oriented and able to prioritize and deal with ambiguity, and work well under pressure -
Ability to provide leadership regarding specialized services programs including Response to Intervention, PBIS, etc. -
Ability to coordinate with the transportation department to ensure student safety and positive experience while riding the school bus. -
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. -
Demonstrate knowledge of the appropriate uses of technology for communication and instruction -
Knowledge of the New York State Standards for curriculum content and instruction -
Knowledge of Trauma Informed and SEL Practices -
Possesses strong interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with students, families, and staff from various backgrounds, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected -

Determines the most appropriate course of action regarding progressive discipline, particularly within a restorative approach -
Manages various school administrative functions (e.g. student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned teachers and personnel, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring district and site objectives are met, enforcing school, district and state policy and providing for safety and efficient school operations. -
Represents school at various meetings (e.g. district, site, community, etc.) for the purpose of shared decision making, communicating and/or gathering information. -
Supports Principal for the purpose of assisting with their job functions of maintaining overall school site operation -
Provides excellent customer service to students, staff, parents and/or community members during shared decision making processes, when concerns are raised, and when engaging the community in the school activities -
Evaluates certified and classified personnel -
Manages, evaluates and is accountable for the building’s instructional materials and makes recommendations for improvements -
Provides oversight, guidance, and collaborates with the Office of Special Education in regards to the building’s consultant teacher services as well as the building’s special programming -
Provides oversight, guidance and facilitates 504 processes, procedures and meetings and serves as a building level case manager for students with 504 Accommodation Plans as appropriate -
Participates in the development of activities that help integrate technology into various curriculum areas -
Maintains current knowledge of technology and instructional practices that relate to the use of technology -
Manages academic assessment of learners and serves as testing coordinator for state and local assessments -
Attends and promotes school and community student programs outside of the school day -
Develops and maintains school safety procedures. -
Helps implement and evaluate the building’s School Improvement Plan -
