Groundsworker - FT, Core - Buildings & Grounds

Hours: 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (8 hours per day, 40 hours per week; work hours may vary due to the change of seasons) - Core Schedule 

Duties of Assignment: Support the Director of Facilities and the operations at the Buildings and Grounds Department, as well as Parker and Crosby Fields.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of general ground maintenance; working knowledge of the methods used in propagating, planting, cultivating, pruning and general care of plants, flowers, shrubs and lawns; working knowledge of the growth characteristics of flowers, plants and bulbs; good knowledge of the methods, equipment and materials used in snow plowing and maintenance of roadways, paths, entrances and exits to buildings; ability to get along well with others; initiative and resourcefulness; ability to follow written and oral instructions; industry and dependability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in site maintenance work; or
  2. Six (6) years of experience in site maintenance or ground maintenance work; or
  3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).

Special Requirement:  Possession of a valid New York State CDL driver’s license within 5.5 months of appointment.

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be prorated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

$17.75-$27.65 per hour
Weekend Laborer PT

Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (8 hours per day, 16 hours per week – Saturday and Sunday, start times may fluctuate due to seasonal changes) - Core Schedule 

Requirements, Knowledge, Skill and Ability: Support the Director of Facilities and the operations of the Building and Grounds department throughout the District.  Ability to understand and follow simple oral instructions; ability to perform a variety of heavy, unskilled manual tasks; must have physical strength and stamina; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Acceptable Training and Experience: There are no educational or experience requirements.  Applicants must be able to perform physical labor.

$16.20-$25.24 per hour
Custodian FT - Lindbergh Elementary

Hours: 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. (8 hours per day, 40 hours per week) - Core schedule

IF APPOINTED PROVISIONALLY THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST BE QUALIFIED TO TAKE THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION WHEN MADE AVAILABLE.  FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT, THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HOLD THE TITLE OF CUSTODIAN OR MUST BE CANVASSED AND REACHABLE FROM THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE LIST.

JOB DUTIES: Support the Director of Facilities, the Senior Custodian and the operations at Lindbergh Elementary School.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Good knowledge of commercial cleaning practices and procedures; working knowledge of the maintenance and repair practices and procedures related to buildings, its fixtures and operating equipment; working knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances; ability to make semi-skilled plumbing, heating, electrical, carpentry and mechanical repairs; ability to operate plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems following established procedures; ability to use various cleaning equipment and products; ability to understand verbal and written instructions; ability to stand, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time; ability to set up and climb ladders or scaffolds; ability to supervise a small staff; thoroughness, dependability, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test: A. Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of experience in either-commercial cleaning practice, or in general building maintenance which included experience in any one of the following trades; Carpentry, Electrical, H.V. and A. C. Systems, Plumbing; OR B. Five years of experience in either-commercial cleaning practices, or in general building maintenance, which included experience in any one of the following trades: Carpentry, Electrical, H.V. and A.C. Systems, Plumbing; OR C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid Class D New York State driver's license at the time of appointment.

$18.30-$28.51 per hour
