Transportation Clerk FT - Transportation Department

IF APPOINTED PROVISIONALLY THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST BE QUALIFIED TO TAKE THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION WHEN MADE AVAILABLE . FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT, THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HOLD THE TITLE OF TRANSPORTATION CLERK OR MUST BE CANVASSED AND REACHABLE FROM THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE LIST.

Hours: 5:30 am - 2:00 pm (8 hours per day, 40 hours per week) - Core Duty Schedule

Duties of Assignment:  Dispatch, school calendars, daily driver sheets, route assign work, arrange bus safety drills; assign/review suspension stops for students; drive school bus as needed, answer telephones and any other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation.

Qualifications: Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination and drug test. Must be committed to training and processes. No more than two (2) moving violations and one (1) preventable accident in the past 3 years. Ability to adhere to all district safety standards and operating procedures. Ability to successfully pass a background check. Familiarity with, or ability to learn software used in Transportation Department;  must be team player with excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to multi-task; must be detail oriented, highly organized,  confidential and willing to work in a fast-paced environment with a flexible schedule and varied hours; also must be:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test: A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, including, or supplemented by, courses in typing and two (2) years of office clerical experience: or: B) Six (6) years of office clerical experience including typing; or: C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (C).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Possession of a valid New York State Commercial Driver's License. Class B "P" & "S" endorsements at the time of application; and
  2. Minimum age requirement: 21 years of age, per New York State Education Department regulations; and
  3. Districts may require candidates to possess 19-A Certification for Bus Drivers from NYS Department of Motor Vehicles and/or a medical examiners certificate at the time of appointment.

Note: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

$24.27 - $37.81/hr.
NYS Department of Labor Bus Driver Training Program Grant through Ken-Ton School District

The Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District, through the New York State Department of Labor Bus Driver Training Program Grant, is looking for individuals interested in training to become Bus Drivers.  The goal of the Department of Labor Bus Driver Training program is for trainees to earn a CDL Class B License and pursue immediate employment using the credential. Employment milestones (job entry, job retention (30 days), and job retention (90 days) will be required).

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Must be over the age of 21. Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination and drug test. Must be committed to training and processes. 

Applications must successfully complete the following prior to starting the program:

  • Complete application

  • NYSED fingerprinting clearance

  • 19-A physical exam 

PROGRAM DETAILS:  Applicants will be notified of the anticipated class start date.  Classes will be held at the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Transportation Department located at 1680 Military Road. The expectation for each participant is that they will be available Monday through Friday 9:30A-1PM for the duration of the program.  

The program is broken down into three phases, which are described below. By submitting this application you are acknowledging you will be available for the duration of the program. Attendance is required at all phases. 

  • PHASE 1: CDL permit test classroom preparation (weeks 1+2)

  • PHASE 2: CDL permit test (week 3)

  • PHASE 3: Behind the wheel training to prepare for CDL Class B road test (weeks 4, 5, + 6)

School Bus Attendant RPT612-51922

Split Shift - 6:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., 10 month schedule

$15.40 - $18.23/hour - Permanent Bus Attendant Part-Time

$500 sign on bonus for those with experience

$250 sign on bonus without experience

DUTIES OF ASSIGNMENT:  Supervise and care for students on bus.  Maintain order for safe transportation.

School Bus Driver RPT614-51922

Permanent Bus Driver Part-Time, 10 month schedule

$19.01 - $27.70/hour

$1000 sign on bonus for drivers who possess a Class B license with P & S endorsements.

$500 sign on bonus for candidates who do not yet possess the school bus driving credentials - contingent upon attaining a Class B license with P&S endorsements.

The Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District is looking for school bus drivers.  Must have good knowledge of driving safety practices; must be able to follow and understand oral and written directions; must be able to get along well with children.  Knowledge of Kenmore/Tonawanda streets a plus. 

$24.27-$37.81/hour
