Payroll Clerk - FT, Core - Non-Represented
Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm, 7.5 hours per day/37.5 hours per week - 12 Month/CORE Duty Schedule
Salary & Benefits: Highly competitive compensation and benefits package. Starting base salary range is $57,000 - $64,000; commensurate with experience.

For permanent appointment, the successful candidate must hold the civil service title of Payroll Clerk and be eligible for transfer pursuant to Erie County Civil Service rules. If not already holding the title, the appointment will be provisional pending civil service examination. A provisional appointee must take the examination when offered, and be canvassed and reachable from the civil service list when issued. A noncompetitive pathway to fill this Payroll Clerk position may be available through the temporary NY HELPS Program. If this option is available, the successful candidate will be advised.
DUTIES OF ASSIGNMENT: Performs specialized clerical work in the keeping of the payroll and personnel records; does related work as required. Compiles payroll figures and keeps records of withholding taxes, social security, retirements, and other deductions; salary increases; participates in preparing regular and periodic state and local reports, quarterly reporting; W-2 preparation; employee attendance; maintains related files and records in connection with forms, correspondence, and reports; answers routine inquiries on employee service records; plans work program to meet payroll schedules. This is a specialized clerical position, ensuring the proper maintenance of employee payroll records and assisting others in proper payroll documentation procedures.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge in transportation timekeeping preferred. Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; working knowledge of forms, procedures and terminology involved in the maintenance and checking of employee records and payrolls; good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions; ability to get along well with others; industry and dependability; a high degree of accuracy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of general office experience, one (1) year of which involved working with payrolls or financial records.
