Position: BIG PICTURE PROGRAM MATH 

(1.0 FTE position)

Salary: KTA Contract salary

Starting Date: 10 days of summer preparatory work prior to start of 2026/2027 school year

Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  The Big Picture School believes that schools must be personalized; educating every student equally, one student at a time. Each student’s learning plan should grow out of his or her unique needs, interests and passions. Advisors are more than classroom teachers; they are an integral part of the environment that allows students the freedom to find themselves with the support and motivation of inspiring adults. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:  The advisor’s job is to create a safe, trusting and collaborative learning environment that enables students to learn through school and community experiences and develop as mature, able, knowledgeable and responsible adults.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid New York State Certificate as an MATH TEACHER. 

  2. Minimum 3 years successful experience as an MATH TEACHER. 

  3. Hold a valid New York State certification in MATH TEACHER. 

  4. Strong instructional leadership and team management skills

  5. A belief that students should be at the center of their learning

  7. The ability to build strong relationships with students and peers

REPORTS TO:    The Principal of the Kenmore Jr/Sr High School

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach students how to learn and gather and filter information through personal interaction, print and web-based sources

  2. Plan a program of instruction that is both challenging and meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of each student

  3. Guide students into learning experiences and activities that focus on the mastery of the specific content area as it relates to state standards

  4. Provide supplemental and education resources in order to support the students’ growth

  5. Employ a variety of educational techniques in pursuit of educational goals and establish clear objectives for student growth

  6. Work with team of administrators, department chairs, teachers, and staff to plan and implement each component of the Big Picture Program

  7.  Facilitate learning outside of the school building via museum trips, engaging with community partners and leadership excursions

  8. Hold students accountable to specific grade, advisory and campus standards and celebrate students’ accomplishments

  9. Assert students’ educational and social progress through quarterly narratives, phone calls to parents and weekly student meetings

  10. Maintain accurate, complete and factual student transcripts as required by the school and state law

  11. Be accessible to students and parents for education-related purposes outside normal school hours as negotiated with students and their families

  12. Actively engage parent and family members in the life and learning of their children

  13. Assist students in applying to at least three colleges and complete one college course while at the Big Picture School

  14. Incorporate formal Learning Plans and Learning Through Internship/Leaving to Learn experiences in the learning journey including occasional driving of students in district vehicles
