Job Description

Full-Time, Non-Represented, Core Schedule

HOURS: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours per week)

IF APPOINTED PROVISIONALLY, THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST BE QUALIFIED TO TAKE THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION WHEN MADE AVAILABLE. FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT, THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HOLD THE TITLE OF JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT OR MUST BE CANVASSED AND REACHABLE FROM THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE LIST.

JOB DUTIES: Process payroll transactions and coordinate payroll activities. Verify and review each pay for reasonableness. Review error reports and other diagnostic reports to confirm payroll accuracy. Perform payroll account recodes. Prepare quarterly Federal and State tax reporting. W-2 preparation. Consolidate and update leave spreadsheets. Perform year-end rollover of employees and positions. Assist with employee benefits as payroll deductions. Coordinate annual and other audit requirements. Assist with payroll calendars and duty schedule creation. Maintenance of all related files and documentation and any other duties as assigned by an Administrator.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Friendly disposition with good oral and written communication skills. Working knowledge of forms, procedures and terminology involved in the maintenance of employee records and payrolls. Knowledge of Excel and Google Suite is helpful. WinCap experience preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field, including or supplemented by a minimum of twenty-four (24) semester credit hours in accounting; or B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of accounting, auditing or bookkeeping experience.

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be prorated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
