IF APPOINTED PROVISIONALLY, THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST BE QUALIFIED TO TAKE THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION WHEN MADE AVAILABLE. FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT, THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HOLD THE TITLE OF TRANSPORTATION CLERK OR MUST BE CANVASSED AND REACHABLE FROM THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE LIST.
Hours: 9:00am - 5:30pm (8 hours per day, 40 hours per week) - Core Duty Schedule
Duties of Assignment: Dispatch, school calendars, daily driver sheets, route assign work, arrange bus safety drills; assign/review suspension stops for students; drive school bus as needed, answer telephones and any other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
Qualifications: Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination and drug test. Must be committed to training and processes. No more than two (2) moving violations and one (1) preventable accident in the past 3 years. Ability to adhere to all district safety standards and operating procedures. Ability to successfully pass a background check. Ability to learn the routing software used in the Transportation Department, must have excellent interpersonal skills, must be able to multitask, must be detail-oriented, highly organized, confidential and willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test: A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, including, or supplemented by, courses in typing and two (2) years of office clerical experience: or: B) Six (6) years of office clerical experience including typing; or: C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (C).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid New York State Commercial Driver's License. Class B "P" & "S" endorsements at the time of application; and
- Minimum age requirement: 21 years of age, per New York State Education Department regulations; and
- Districts may require candidates to possess 19-A Certification for Bus Drivers from NYS Department of Motor Vehicles and/or a medical examiners certificate at the time of appointment.
Note: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
