Hours vary - 6.75 hours per day (33.75 hours per week) - schedule TBD between the hours of 7:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. - 10 month duty schedule
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or have served in a community service organization, preferably experience working with high school students and possess an awareness/general understanding of high school security and safety procedures; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Duties of Assignment: The work involves building relationships with students and staff while providing security for the building and property to ensure the safety of employees, students and the visiting public. This is a para-professional security position responsible for monitoring the activities within the school facilities. The incumbent is responsible for taking appropriate action to prevent or minimize disruption to the normal school day. The incumbent receives direct supervision from school administration, will take daily direction from the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to the building and also must exercise judgment in emergency situations or when supervision is not available. Does related work as required or assigned by Administration and/or the SRO.
Special Qualifications:
Able to implement effective safety and security protocols to ensure a safe school environment. Should possess excellent student supervisory and communication skills. Treat all people with respect to build and maintain a positive school climate. Incumbent will work with Administration, SRO and District safety teams to gain more knowledge regarding District safety codes and emergency preparedness plans. Assist the security team to facilitate and improve safety and security programs. Ability to maintain confidential records. Must be a team player and reliable. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position; once hired, additional professional training may be required.
Typical Work Activities:
Monitor buildings and adjoining areas to ensure the security of employees, students, visitors and property; Provide verbal direction and utilize de-escalation tactics with students to avoid verbal or physical altercations; Utilize specialized training and skills when necessary to provide physical intervention and restraint; May conduct searches of the facilities as required; Conducts investigations concerning losses of property, completing all required reports; Performs daily duties such as logging incidents, filing, etc.; May operate equipment such as, but not limited to, circuit television monitors, fire alarm systems, radio communication systems, computers and telephones; Responds to alarms of fire and performs duties necessary to protect life and property, including the use of fire suppression apparatus and evacuation of staff, students and visitors; Responds to emergency situations within the facility and controls vehicles and/or pedestrian traffic; Furnishes information and assistance to visitors, contractors and employees; Enforces the facility’s Policies and Procedures, as directed; Prepares depositions and reports necessary to all activities performed, as required.
Additional Training Desired:
- Successful completion of Security Guard Training;
- Updated CPR, 1st Aid and AED certification;
- Updated Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI) training
